Activists write to SC about SIT ‘lapse’
Several prominent citizens, Gandhians and human rights activists have shot off a letter to the Chief Justice of India expressing their concern about reported shoddy investigations done into the 2002 riots by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by it.
The provocation for dashing off the letter is a report in a local newspaper which said that the SIT is planning to file a closure report about certain riot cases.
“Reports of the SC-appointed SIT out to sidestep and bury evidence is detrimental to justice and peace and prosperity in the State of Gujarat,” the prominent citizens led by Gandhian Chunibhai Vaidya told the apex court.
“We hope for a thorough probe and strengthening of the processes of justice,” the letter to the Chief Justice of India said.
