Spotlight on three generations of Thackerays

Spotlight on three generations of Thackerays
The campaigning for the February 16 polls to 10 municipal corporations in the State has gathered momentum, with leaders of major political parties addressing election rallies and holding road shows in cities which are going to civic polls.

Not unexpectedly, spotlight will remain on the leaders from the three generations of Thackeray all through the electioneering for the crucial Brihanumbai, Thane and Pune Municipal Corporation polls.

Eighty five-year-old Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, his 51 year-old son and party’s executive president Uddhav Thackeray, 21-year-old Yuv Sena-chief grandson Aditya Thackeray are chief campaigners for the Sena, while MNS chief Raj Thackeray and his 18-year-old son Amit are campaigning for their party. Raj’s wife Sharmila and daughter Urvashi are helping the MNS chief in the campaign.

While Uddhav and Aditya are already campaigning for their party, the Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray will address two public rallies for his party — on February 11 at Thane and on February 13 in Mumbai.

Aditya caused a stir in Pune as he, his youngest brother Tejas and local Sena leaders held a road show in Pune on Sunday.

A law student at KC College in south Mumbai, Aditya exhorted Punekars to dislodge the “corrupt” Congress-NCP from the Pune Municipal Corporation. “We have already proved our mettle in Mumbai civic body, please give us a chance to serve you,” Aditya told the audience at a Pune election meeting.

Not to be outdone, Raj’s son Amit joined his father Raj Thackeray, during the road shows in the western suburbs and eastern suburbs of Mumbai.

A student of Ruparel College, Amit was seen tailing his father’s vehicle in an open jeep during the campaign.

Queried if he intended to join politics, Amit said, “I have not given a thought yet.” But, he said that he was overwhelmed with the response that his father is receiving.

“I have come here for experience,” Amit said about the road show.

Similarly, senior Congress leader Narayan Rane, his sons Nitesh and MP-son Nilesh will campaign for their party, while Chhagan Bhujbal, his son Pankaj and nephew Sameer are expected to campaign for their party in the polls to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).

While deputy chief Ajit Pawar is the key campaigner for the NCP in Pune, city Congress MPs Gurudas Kamat, Priya Dutt, Sanjay Nirupam and Milind Deora are campaigning for their party. BJP’s Vinod Tawde and Raj Purohit

have been campaigning for their party.
