The RSS would provide more than one of its pracharaks as organisational general secretaries to the BJP in Rajasthan in an attempt to have more say in the organisational structure and the party’s functioning. Kaptan Singh Solanki, in-charge of party affairs in Rajasthan, discussed this plan with RSS leaders at length on Tuesday.
In the past, there was only one pracharak as State-level organisational general secretary and the post was held by Om Prakash Mathur, member of the Rajya Sabha.
After that, Prakash Chandra had been at the post for several years when he was withdrawn by the RSS leadership in 2009 as his performance was not up to the mark in the Assembly as well as Lok Sabha elections.
Since then, the post of organisational general secretary is lying vacant — mainly due to differences between BJP leaders and the RSS. The task of organisational general secretary during this period was being carried out by Solanki, specially deputed by party president Nitin Gadkari to look after organisational issues.
As the party is gearing up for organisational elections, it was felt that more than one RSS pracharak should be sent to the BJP to make the election smooth. Though administratively Rajasthan is one State, RSS has divided it into three prant (provinces) for its organisational set-up and Jaipur, Jodhpur and Chittorgarh are headquarters of these provinces.
According to party sources, the same pattern would be followed in organisational set-up of the party. And that was the reason that it was felt that instead of one, RSS should spare three pracharaks.
As Assembly elections are approaching fast, the BJP and RSS leaders are keen to have a well-knit organisational set-up in place to take on the Congress. Other than supervising the day-to-day functioning of the organisation, the opinion of these pracharaks is considered very important in selection of party candidates.
