‘India-China war will suit only US’
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said a war between India and China will suit only the US as it will boost its weapons sale.
Sharing his opinion on a statement of a US think-tank and strategist that there is possibility of a war between India and China, Abdullah reacted by saying, “Why should India and China go to war at all? It only suits the US because it will sell more weapons. But, it does not suit India and China.”
“India and China have good relations. We hope it will further improve,” Abdullah told reporters after inspecting renovation and restoration work at the Mubarak Mandi heritage site in Jammu. “Leave it (US think tank’s opinion of war) to India and China,” Abdullah said and called for playing down of stray incidents between the two countries. “There is always some sort of tension among neighbours. If stray incidents take place, there is no need to exaggerate them.”
Commenting on another contentious issue of AFSPA, Abdullah said, “AFSPA is for legitimate protection and not for protection of the acts of crime. And that is something we have always maintained”.
He said protection of AFSPA is given to the personnel so that they not become victims of the law while rendering their (anti-militancy operational) duties. Abdullah said, “I do not think the armed forces have to commit rape, murder or any other such activities in order to perform their duties. Therefore the observation of the apex court is correct.”
