Singhvi trashes Diggy’s President Rule threat; BJP cries ‘bantadhar’
In a desperate attempt to improve its electoral fortunes in Uttar Pradesh, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday threatened the imposition of President’s Rule in the State if the party failed to come to power.

Wary of its implications, Congress lost no time in trashing it with party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi dismissing it as a hypothetical situation. It, however, evoked a strong reaction from the BJP, which shot back at the former Madhya Pradesh CM calling him Mr Bantadhar (spoiler).

Singhvi claimed such a situation will not arise as the Congress will get the majority on its own. However, he said the party is not trying to play power games in Uttar Pradesh. “We do not intend to remote-control anyone.”

The party ridiculed Singh, saying he first spoiled his party in Madhya Pradesh and was now hell bent on destroying the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. “Mr Bantadhar feels the Home Minister of the UPA Government will decide UP’s fate. He is blind to people’s power,” BJP spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said.

The BJP leader asked Singh to look at recent elections wherein people gave a clear mandate in favour of one party or the other. “The era of hung Assemblies is over,” he said, adding Singh effort to frighten people in the name of President Rule was after realisation by Congress leaders that they were never in the race in UP.

The BJP leader also took potshots at the Congress for distancing itself from its MP and CWG accused Suresh Kalmadi, but taking help of his aide to manage its election war room. Hussain quoted from media report to claim that Kalmadi’s aide were managing Congress’ backroom works in UP.

Meanwhile, the Congress complained to the Election Commission against “serious and deliberate security lapses” in the public meetings of Rahul and sought action against the State administration and groups responsible for it. Naming organisations like Ramdev Samarthak Manch, Matadata Jagaran Manch and Swabhiman Manch, the party claimed that volunteers of these organisations caused security breaches in Rahul’s programmes.
