Fifty cartridges, including 40 live bullets, used in medium machine guns, were recovered from the high security New Delhi district.
These catridges were thrown in a dustbin kept at the north side of Rajpath, just a kilometer away from Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House complex. Two CRPF personnel who were on duty near Rajpath discovered these catridges.
A senior police official said the cartridges were spotted by CRPF Head Constable Santosh Rawade and Cadet Vinay Kumar from the dustbin located in Enclosure No 32 behind Shastri Bhavan. The enclosure is at the north side of Rajpath.
The two CRPF personnel were on patrol duty on Rajpath at around 12:30 pm on Monday. While checking the dustbin in the enclosure behind the Shastri Bhavan, they found a suspicious packet inside it. They took the packet out and inspected it. It contained 40 live cartridges used in medium machine guns and ten bullets of 12 bore. They immediately informed police about it and a Crime Team was sent to the scene.
“An unidentified person has left the cartridges in the dustbin. A case under Arms Act has been registered,” the official said. The MMG cartridges and 12 bore cartridges were in separate packets, but both the packets were in a single container. Ten 12 bore catridges were misfired and 50 years old.
