The CPI’s 21st Kerala State conference began formally in Kollam on Wednesday with general secretary AB Bardhan’s call for efforts to make stronger Left unity a reality. Delivering his opening address to the conference, Bardhan also unleashed a severe attack against the UPA Government in the Centre.
Bardhan asked partymen not to attach too much importance to the current disputes between the CPI and the CPI(M). However, the political report presented to the conference by State secretary CK Chandrappan criticized the CPI(M), its big brother in the Opposition LDF in Kerala on many issues.
The report said that the CPI need not adopt the position of a slave before the CPI(M), adding that disputes between two constituents would not lead to the collapse of the LDF. It alleged that the divisionism in the CPI(M) had affected the work and prospects of the front.
The report pointed out that the controversies over allocation of seat to VS Achuthanandan in the last Assembly polls had created confusion among the people. The CPI(M)’s decision to have an alliance with Islamist leader Abdul Nasser Madani’s PDP had affected the secular image of the LDF, it said.
