Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta raided the premises of a doctor couple and claimed to have recovered documents showing assets worth over Rs 35 crore.
Surprisingly, a currency note counting machine was recovered from their house in Ujjain.
Residences of Dr Vinod Lahiri and his wife Vidya, both Government officials currently under suspension, at Ujjain and Nagda were raided by Special Establishment Police, Ujjain Lokayukta SP Arun Mishra told mediapersons
on Friday.
The Lahiris have two houses each in Ujjain, Indore and Nagda, he said, adding that they also own a cold storage facility, a petrol pump, 150 bighas of land and four cars.
The couple had a specially-built almirah for keeping jewellery. They have around 18 bank accounts which recorded large transactions of late, Mishra said.
Their Nagda house is four-storied and is equipped with a swimming pool, he said.
The papers recovered till now show that the two have assets amounting to over Rs 35 crore, the SP said, adding that more property documents may be recovered. Vinod Lahiri was working in the office of Joint Director (Health), he added.
The couple were formerly posted in the Government hospital of Nagda and own a private nursing home in the city. Sources say that the couple forced the patients who came to the Government hospital to go to their nursing home for treatment, which sowed the seeds of a public demonstration almost a year ago. Both the doctors were eventually suspended and attached in the office of the Director, Health.
The Lokayukta team also found a five feet tall and five feet wide safe.
