Cong finds BJP ‘give & take’ in Karnataka AG resignation
The Congress on Friday blamed the BJP for “give and take” pact with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to garner her support for NDA. Union Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily charged BJP with trying to lure Jayalalithaa to support NDA by pressurising State Advocate General BV Acharya who had quit his office on Wednesday.
Veerappa Moily told mediapersons on the sidelines of a function in Bangalore that “there is a quid pro quo between the BJP and Jayalalithaa. Acharya was pressurised by the BJP to quit as SPP to favour Jayalalithaa. It is so open and shameless. They want her support for NDA. This
kind of give-and-take, quid pro quo” and “interference” in judicial process should be strongly condemned.
, the former Karnataka Chief Minister said and noted that when the AG’s post was offered to Acharya, the Government was fully aware that he was also serving as the SPP.
He warned the BJP that it amounted to contempt of court. The Minister also felt that the judiciary must look into how this amounts to interference in the administration of justice.
Moily, however, supported Minority Minister Salman Khurshid on his statement on sub quota issue for minorities and noted that the Election Commission must have taken note of Salman Khurshid as a politician first before he was censured.
“Some times.....as political leaders we give statements. That’s a matter (Khurshid making the statement as a politician; not as a Minister) which has to be considered by the Election Commission of India,” the former Karnataka Chief Minister, who had in the past served as chairman of the AICC Media Department, claimed. Having said that, Moily hastened to add he would not like to comment on the Election Commission notice to Khurshid, adding, the EC has done its duty. “Appropriate reply will be given by Salman Khurshid,” he added.
