Big B hearty & hale after three-hour-long surgery
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Saturday underwent an abdominal surgery at the SevenHills hospital at Andheri in north Mumbai, two days after he complained on his blog of “pain in the abdomen”.
Sixty-nine-year-old Bachchan, who was admitted to the suburban Mumbai hospital on Friday night, underwent a three-hour-long surgery, which went off well.
Talking to mediapersons after the surgery, Bachchan’s actor-son Abhishek Bachchan said: ‘My father underwent abdominal surgery today. The operation was minor and it lasted approximately three hours. He is fine and in the recovery room. If all goes well, he will be discharged on Sunday”.
Earlier in the afternoon, Abhishek had tweeted: “Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting”.
“He is very stable... I will not comment on his medical condition, it is his personal thing. All I can say is that he underwent an abdomen surgery,” one of the doctors attending on him at the hospital said.
According to the doctor concerned, Bachchan had come to the hospital complaining of “pain in the abdomen”. Bachchan underwent tests and it was found that surgical interventions would relieve him of his problems and the actor readily agreed.
Big B, who has had a history of stomach ailments ever since he suffered an intestinal injury, had written on his blog on Thursday said that he was suffering from pain in the abdomen, that he was planning to undergo a CT the following day and that if need be he would undergo a surgery subsequently.
“There were some medical procedures today as well, for, and this is being disclosed to the extended family at this point of time, a surgery that I shall be undergoing on February 11 morning. I do not wish to talk much on my medical condition,” he had said.
Amitabh had told his fans — whom he calls extended family — the impending surgery was “not too complicated”.
In a fresh post uploaded in the small hours of Saturday, Sr Bachchan thanked his fans and friends for showing concern for his health and wishing him a speedy recovery. “…. Your prayers shall go a long way in bringing me back to normal and for this I am always eternally grateful,” he wrote.
Not normally given to missing out on writing on his blog every day, Big B uploaded a new post on his blog bigb.bigadda.com at 12.37 am on Saturday: “The early morning call for the surgery is early and the moment the doctors saw me operating my laptop, which is the first facility I ask for when I travel out, they have shown consternation and demanded that all this has to stop and that I should be in bed”.
