BJP worker hacked to death in Kerala
In an act of brutal political hostility, a BJP worker was hacked to death by suspected CPI(M) activists at Payyoli in Kerala’s Kozhikode district. BJP worker, Choriyanchalil Thazhemmal Manoj (40), was allegedly attacked by CPI(M) men at his home in Payyoli on Sunday night and he succumbed to injuries early on Monday morning at the hospital.
Manoj was attacked at his home by a group of about 15 men in masks, armed with swords and other lethal weapons, at about 9.30 pm on Sunday. He was attacked on the head and legs when he came out of the house hearing some noises.
The neighbours who had assembled at Manoj’s house hearing the cries of his wife Pushpa and daughters Arya and Nanda, were threatened with swords. The gang also went on the rampage at the house for an hour destr
oying everything there, including furniture and home appliances.
It was only after they had left that the neighbours could take him to the Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning. An auto-rikshaw driver, Manoj was also the Payyoli unit secretary of the BMS. He had contested as a BJP candidate in the last local body elections.
The BJP held the CPI(M) responsible for the murder of Manoj. The party, the BMS and the Hindu AikyaVedi observed a 24-hour strike on Monday in Koilandy Assembly constituency, which included Payyoli.
Meanwhile, the northern parts of Kozhikode district continued witnessing political turbulence. Two CPI(M) workers, Erath Balan (55) and Vel
ippil Manojan (34) were injured at Neettoor near Kuttyadi. The CPI(M) alleged that Muslim league activists were behind the attack.
