Police meet looks to ensure timely promotions

Police meet looks to ensure timely promotions

The officers of the Indian Police Services (IPS) and Provincial Police Services (PPS) met after a long gap and decided to prepare a draft so at least three time-bound promotions must be ensured — from Constable till Director General of Police rank.

It was also decided that the prestige of the DGP and other police officers will be reinstated so that they should be also treated at par with the officers of Indian Administrative Services and Provincial Civil Services (PCS) cadre.

Both the police cadre as well as lower rank cops also strongly favoured that now DGPs should be selected only from the three most senior IPS officers of the State so officers dancing to the tunes of their political masters be kept aside and the prestige of the entire department is maintained.

It was also advocated in the meeting to implement Police Reforms as well as the New Police Act.

The officers also formed a Co-ordination Committee headed by IG, Arun Kumar, who is secretary of the IPS Association, which also comprises PPS officers, AK Gupta, Kamal Kishore Asthana and others. They would prepare a draft and pursue the matter for successful implementation of their charter.

Another committee to look into avenues of PPS cadre was also formed which comprises of additional SP, Dinesh Chandra Dubey, and deputy SPs — Amrita Mishra and Nizam Hassan.

Interestingly, the officers also decided now to keep away the issue of dispute of SP Siddharthnagar, Mohit Gupta with divisional commissioner of Basti, Anurag Srivastava and claimed that they now left the matter for the State government to make final verdict.

According to reports, almost all the members of both IPS, PPS Associations as well as cops of lower rank who met here at Police Officers Mess on Monday evening are of the view that now it is high time that they should unite to save the prestige of the entire Department and save it from turning out to be a `puppet' into the hands of bureaucrats and politicians.

Both PPS cadre and their junior colleagues strongly demanded that just like all officers of IPS cadre who get at least thre promotions at every 10-years in their career so if they wanted to win their trust than they should also take up their issue and ensure the same promotional avenues for all the members of the Department.

The participants are of the view that just due to differences amongst them the politicians and bureaucrats took advantage of it and rule over them.

They decided to save their prestige at last, all the members of the police department should work unitedly, looking after welfare of each others.

The IPS Association also took confidence of their sub-ordinates by assuring to take up their pending issues with the State Government.
