Garden festival brings in riot of colours
The 25th Garden Tourism Festival kicked off on Friday at the Garden of Five Senses in the Capital. The three-day celebration brings some 15,000 potted plants in a mass of vivid green and other colours.
The festival is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year on the theme of ‘beauty & nutrition’ and was inaugurated by Delhi Tourism chairman Manish Chatrath, who pointed out plants from other countries. Delhi Tourism MD & CEO GG Saxena and area MLA Balram Tanwar were also present.
This year, major participants like DDA, NDMC, Delhi Jal Board and MCD are participating in the theme garden category. They have displayed varieties of herbs and vegetables, along with displaying nutritive value of varieties of fruits and veggies.
Competitions have been organised in 31-odd categories like potted plants, hanging baskets, cactus etc. There is a separate section to sell plants, horticulture equipment, pesticides, fertilisers and other general items. A new vertical garden is also attracting a lot of attention, based as it is on the popular concept of a garden within a restricted space.
The horticulture departments of GNCTD, MCD, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Ashok Kumar Munjal, Sunbeam Auto (P) and Northern Railway Nursery are also taking part.
