No conflict on age issue: Minister

No conflict on age issue: Minister

Antony admitted the Government has learnt lessons from Army chief General VK Singh’s age row but stressed the point that there was no civil-military conflict.

“We have learnt lessons from it... There is no strain... Now what we are going to do hereafter in all armed forces as a whole is that we will ask everybody to strictly reconcile different documents so that this kind of conflict of views does not happen in future,” he said, adding “We cannot have such controversies in future.” The Army chief is likely to get his retirement warning letter next week after he returns from an official visit to UK.

The letter is generally issued to the officers at least eight to nine months before their due date of retirement for orderly completion of all formalities. In Singh’s case this process could not be followed as he had filed a statutory complaint and then approached the Supreme Court, sources said here.
