Wife awaits release; cop killed in Maoist encounter
Waiting impatiently for the release of her hubby, Asha Menon, wife of the abducted Sukma collector on Wednesday passed through deep emotional moment preparing herself to receive Menon anytime on Thursday.
She welcomed Maoists announcement with virtually a choked voice full of gratitude towards one and all who stood with her in the hours great anxiety.
In her reaction to a local news channel Wednesday, Asha said “I am eagerly waiting for the emotional moment when the god will reunite me with Sir (Menon),’’. She is stationed at Sukma town, some 500 km south of Raipur.
Meanwhile, one of the interlocutors of Maoists BD Sharma confirmed that they have been asked by Maoists to come to Tarmetla and receive the collector.
He however refused to reveal time and place suggested by the rebels. Notably, Maoist militants Wednesday confirmed that Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon, whom they have been holding hostage since April 21, would be released on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raman Singh termed as unfortunate the encounter of police personnel with Maoist rebels which occurred at Bacheli market in which four policemen were injured critically out of which one succumbed to injuries later.
In a message to a few media outlets, the guerillas said the collector would be released in presence of a local gathering in Tarmetla area in Sukma district.
Tarmetla which is part of the newly formed Sukma district, is the site where Maoists had slaughtered 76 government forces in April 2010.
Reports Coming in from state’s troubled Bastar region, say that Maoists want to hand over the 32-year-old Menon, a 2006 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, to their two interlocutors, Professor G Hargopal and BD Sharma.
Meanwhile, top official sources said, “Chhattisgarh government has planned to arrange chopper for the interlocutors to visit Tarmetla to receive Menon, if situation demanded.”
