SC: Will not be influenced by CBI or media

Bogged down by the controversy surrounding the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, the Supreme Court on Friday said it would not be influenced by the CBI or the media in this case, and would purely decide the review petition filed by Nupur Talwar, according to law.

Taking up the review petition for hearing, the bench of Justices AK Pattnaik and JS Khehar, faced a daunting task before it after the entire evidence in the case was minutely dealt with by senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for Nupur. Her lawyers even mentioned her application seeking bail, which the Court agreed to consider after concluding arguments on review plea.

While CBI objected to the evidence being discussed threadbare in a review petition proceedings, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Harin Raval reminded the Court that law laid down by this Court does not permit review petitions such wide “scope”.

Taking offence of this submission, Justice Pattnaik retorted, “This is the Supreme Court of India and we are not going to be cowed down by your threats. You are taking objection to the court hearing this case….So much of controversy, so much of media coverage, but we won’t go by it…we will go by law and facts in the case.”
