New Guv for developing Goa with green touch
Newly-inducted Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo called for balanced growth as he took oath on Friday.
Wanchoo, who hails from the 1976 batch West Bengal cadre of Indian Police Service (IPS), retired as the head of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) in October last year and replaces K Sankaranarayanan, the Governor of Maharashtra who was holding additional charge of Goa. SS Sidhu was the previous full-time Governor, who remitted office in September last year.
“The State is witnessing progress and growth needs to be balanced considering the environment of this most beautiful land of yours. I look forward to working together with the dynamic Chief Minister in furthering wellness and prosperity of people,” Wanchoo said. Goa has witnessed a huge and unsustainable growth in the mining industry much to the detriment of its environment.
Speaking on the issue of Government stability in a State where political instability is the norm and the role played by the Governors assumes importance.
