Prince Andrew visits Officers Training Academy in Chennai

Prince Andrew, The Duke of York KG, on Friday visited the Officers Training Academy (OTA) and interacted with the officers and cadets. The visit is part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration whereby the members of the royal family are visiting commonwealth countries in support of Queen Elizabeth.

Lt Gen SS Jog SM, VSM, Commandant OTA Chennai termed this visit an important landmark in the Indo-British shared legacy. Lt Gen Jog and his team later briefed the

Prince on the OTA, which is incidentally celebrating its Golden Jubilee year.

According to a Defence release, they spent a minute’s silence at the Martyrs’ Memorial and then had a hilltop view of the sprawling 650-acre campus. The Duke was later briefed by senior officers at the Library, the Sand Model Room and spent some time with young cadets at the Terrain Model Room.

At the Officers’ Mess, The Duke of York informally interacted with officers and senior guests at drinks and lunch hosted by Commandant Jog. Guests included seniors from the Indian Army and officers from the other Forces.

“I am delighted about today’s visit. There are warm and growing ties between the OTA and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). In March 2012, Captain Amit Hooda and 4 cadets from the OTA visited RMAS in the UK. In April 2012, Captain Richard Leigh-Wood led a team of 4 cadets on a successful reciprocal visit to the OTA,” Mike Nithavrianakis, British Deputy High Commissioner said.

The Duke last visited Chennai in 2006, as the UK’s Special Representative for Trade and Investment.
