Kerala Tourism to hold roadshow in S Arabia
Kerala Tourism will hold its first-ever roadshow in Saudi Arabia starting Sunday in a bid to attract more tourists from the Gulf kingdom to God’s Own Country.
The three-day roadshow would start at Jeddah on Sunday followed by Riyadh and Dammam on the following days, according to an official release. In a statement, Kerala Tourism Minister AP Anil Kumar said that Saudi Arabia was the biggest market for outbound tourists in the Gulf region.
Statistics show that the Gulf region recorded more than 90 lakh outbound tourists in 2011. Projection is that the figure may touch 35 million in another eight years. The Gulf kingdom accounted for 40 percent of these outbound tourists and India was among the major destinations sought after by the Arab tourists, said the release.
Saudi Arabia’s geographical proximity to Kerala was another factor in favour of the State, the release said. About 50 local tour operators are expected to participate in the roadshows in each of the three Saudi Arabian cities, while a Kerala delegation led by Minister Anil Kumar would have 15 tourism service providers from the State.
