    New chief for Southern Naval Command

    Vice Admiral Satish Soni will assume office as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command on May 31. He will assume command as the 22nd commander in chief of the training command of the Navy from Vice Admiral KN Sushil, who retires that day after nearly 40 years of distinguished service, according to a Navy release.

    Admiral Satish Soni was commissioned into the Navy in July, 1976. A winner of the Sword of Honour and a specialist in navigation and aircraft direction, the Admiral’s important sea commands included commands of stealth frigate INS Talwar, guided missile destroyer INS Delhi and Eastern Fleet, the release said.

    He has also been Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command and commandant of the prestigious National Defence Academy at Kahadakwasla, Pune. Vice Admiral Satish Soni, who has been honoured with Ati Vishisht Sena Medal and Nao Sena Medal, is presently serving as the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at New Delhi.
