    Marines’ remand period extended

    Marines’ remand period extended

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Kollam on Monday extended till May 11 the period of remand in judicial custody of Italian Marines Latore Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone, accused of shooting to death two Indian fishermen from Italian oil tanker Enrica Lexie off the Kerala coast on February 15.

Though the two Marines were brought to the court on Monday morning itself, they could be produced before the Magistrate only by noon. After the court extended the remand period, the two were taken back to the Central Prison in Thiruvananthapuram where they had been lodged since the first week of March.

Massimiliano and Girone, arrested from Enrica Lexie on February 19, were first remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on February 20. However, the duo had spent this period in the cozy CISF Guest House in Kochi after the Kerala Police got them in custody for investigations. However, the court sent them to the Thiruvananthapuram prison later.
