Gurgaon orphanage mired in sexual abuse charges
In an uneasy reminder of the child abuse case that emerged out of an orphanage in Daryaganj, five minor girls of a Gurgaon orphanage on Friday have allegedly been sexually abused, according to a complaint.
The children have been living with the NGO Suparna Ka Aangan in Wazirabad village in Gurgaon for the past couple of years. The matter is being investigated and the police have registered a case of rape against 22-year-old Rashik, a former employee of the NGO.
Police have sent the girls for medical examination. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Gurgaon), Maheshwar Dayal said the medical reports of two have confirmed rape and the samples of the remaining three are being examined.
While the accused, described as a caretaker in the complaint, has been nabbed, the administration of the NGO pleaded innocence and said no other person of the organisation was involved in such incidents.
The complaint was filed by a resident of Sector-56 in Wazirabad village at the Sushant Lok Phase-I police station upon which a raid was conducted at around 11:30 am. It was then that the cops arrested the accused and sent four minors for medical examination in city civil hospital, DCP Dayal said. “We are investigating the matter and a case of rape under Section-376 of the IPC has been registered against Rashik,” Dayal added.
The Manager of the NGO, Anju Guliani, sought to blame the teachers of a Government primary school located near the shelter home, saying that they often interacted with the children and they might have convinced someone to lodge a false complaint. “We are taking care of 60 children, including 16 girls. They are staying in different shelter homes. Last year a similar situation had occurred with locals complaining of child abuse but they were found to be false allegations. The accused Rashik worked as a cook in the NGO and not as a caretaker. He is not employed with the NGO anymore. The allegation against Rashik is totally baseless. How can he rape the girls when he was not living in the town? He had gone to Chennai,” she said.
