A three-member team of Delhi Police Crime Branch is flying to Tehran, the Iranian capital, to share information about the involvement of Iranians in the blast that had ripped through the official car of the Israeli Embassy on February 13.
Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Ashok Chand, Additional DCP Sanjeev Yadav and Inspector Hriday Bhushan are most likely to go to Tehran by the third week of May. Sayed Ali Mehdian, Houshang Afshar Irani and Mohammed Raza Abolghashemi are the three Iranian nationals who are wanted by the Delhi Police in connection with the terrorist attack that had caused serious injuries to Tal Yehoshua-Koren, the wife of the Defence Attaché of the Israeli embassy at New Delhi.
Addl CP Crime Ashok Chand said that they are waiting for the official clearance from the Government to go ahead. The trip to Tehran is aimed at sharing information with the Iranian authorities and also furnishing evidence about the involvement of the three Iranians in the attack on the Israeli woman diplomat. The Crime Branch is in the possession of the copies of the passports of the three Iranians that they had deposited with hotels during their stay in Delhi. Kazmi had travelled to Iran twice and had met Sayed Ali Mehdian and allegedly received financial remittances. “The Crime Branch is in the midst of preparing the chargesheet and the visit will help us in building a water tight case,” he added. The Crime Branch is supposed to file the chargesheet by June 6.
The Special Team of Delhi Police had claimed to have cracked the case after it arrested Delhi based journalist Sayed Mohammad Ahmed Kazmi on March 6. Kazmi, an accredited journalist with the Press Information Bureau (PIB), is currently lodged in Tihar jail. It was Kazmi who, according to the investigators, facilitated the stay of the Iranians in Delhi, provided them with the logistics. “Kazmi is the conspirator and not the executioner of the conspiracy. Investigations have revealed that he did it in lieu of money and also for ideological reasons. It is alleged that he met Mohammed Reza during his stay in Tehran. Reza had reportedly asked him to provide help and logistics to them during their visit to the Indian Capital.”
The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the foreign remittance into the account of Jahanara Kazmim, the wife of Kazmi. ED has cast its net far and wide to ascertain the source of money and who were the people who transacted the amount in that particular account. There are many other aspects of the case that are being investigated. “We will come out with full facts when the chargesheet is submitted before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Tis Hazari courts,” a police official said.
