Elderly woman found dead inside Northeast Delhi residence
A 60-year-old senior citizen woman was found dead inside her residence in Mansarovar Park area of Northeast Delhi on Friday morning. Shanti Devi, who stayed with her son and grandchildren in her house, was found lying on her bed in a pool of blood.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northeast, Sanjay Jain said, “We received a call at 9:30 am on Friday regarding the incident. Shanti Devi’s son informed police that his mother is lying in a pool of blood inside her bedroom. Police reached the spot and took her body for autopsy. She was found dead with head injuries. Her family members informed that she was wearing jewellery on her body, which was missing when we found her body.”
This indicates that she was probably murdered with an intention of robbery. Subsequently, a case of murder has been registered against unknown persons. and investigation has been taken up. “We are investigating the case from all angles including murder with intention of robbery and personal enmity,” the DCP added.
Shanta Devi has been staying at Ashok Nagar since many years. Her husband had passed away five years back. A mother of three sons, Shanta Devi was staying with her eldest son at his residence.
The family does not suspect somebody behind the murder. They last spoke to her at 11:00 pm on Thursday night before she went to sleep in her room after having dinner. Next morning, when her son went to wake her up in her room, he saw her lying in a pool of blood, the official added.
