Constable found dead inside water tank at Malviya Nagar
A 22-year-old Delhi police constable was found dead inisde a water tank under highly mysterious circumstances on Thursday.
His body was fished out from an overhead tank of the barracks of 7th batallion situated in old Delhi police training school at Malviya Nagar. Investigators suspect that he accidentally fell inside the water tank and there was no foul play involved. Also there were no external injury marks on his body. However, they are not ruling out any possibility and are investigating it as a case of homicide too.
Constable Munish Hooda, posted with 7th batallion of Delhi police, was last seen in his barracks by his colleagues at around 1:00 am on Wednesday. His body was discovered from a water tank of 1,000 litre storage capacity around 9.30 am on Thursday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pramod Kushwah, said: “We received a call regarding the incident at 9:30 am on Thursday. Constable Munish Hooda was found dead inside a water tanker above the barracks of 7th batallion. He stayed at the first floor and was last seen by his colleauges on Wednesday night. They saw him going to the roof at around 12:30 am on Wednesday. In the morning, when one of them went upwards to check the water tank, he was discovered dead and a PCR call was made.”
Prima facie, the official said, it appeared that Hooda accidentally fell into the tank and could not come out. There were no external injury marks on his body. When he was taken out of the tank, he was in a feotal position, with both hands close to his chest. Police is taking a clue from all this to carry on investigation. They are not ruling out that this could be a case of murder. “There is no foul play. There are no injuries on his body. However, we are investigating the case,” the official said.
The body was sent for post-mortem to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. “The post-mortem examina-tion report will throw light on the causes of his death,” said Kushwah. “We will register a case if anything adverse comes in the autopsy report,”he added.
Younger of the two siblings, Hooda joined Delhi Police in 2010. His elder brother works as a conductor with Haryana Roadways. His father is a Head Constable posted at the Mayur Vihar police station in east Delhi. He hailed from a village in Rohtak. His family members said that Munish was depressed as he was not able to get leaves even on medical grounds. His father Krishan said, “Munish was not well and had been detected with fever, he wanted to take leave and come back home, but he complained that his senior will not sanction his leave. He had come home for a day on May 1 and had joined work on May 2.”
The family suspects that Munish might have been murdered as they saw some cut marks on his body, however, police said that the doctors who conducted autopsy informed that the marks were probably due to excessive heat. The picture will be clear only after the autopsy report is out.
