Parties keep inflation out of Budget Session discussion list
Though the Congress and the BJP always show their concern over the sufferings of common man due to the bone-crashing inflation, but when it comes to act on it, they both fail to budge.
The inflation should have been the top priority for both parties in the upcoming Budget Session of the Delhi Assembly but on the contrary, no discussion will take place on inflation during the eight day-long Session. Congress MLAs Mukesh Sharma, Choudhury Mateen Ahmed and Prahlad Singh Sawhney have mentioned the issue in the list for a short duration discussion on the issue but Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has rejected it. This was revealed by Speaker Dr Yoganand Shastri during a pre-session Press conference on Saturday. Surprisingly, no MLA from the BJP has listed the inflation issue to be discussed in the Assembly Session.
Chief Minister Sheila Dik**** who holds the Finance Department, will present the Budget on Monday and it will be passed on June 4. Responding to a query on inflation, Shastri said that BAC has rejected the proposal. The ruling Congress has majority in the BAC, it has four members that include Kunwar Karan Singh, Prahlad Singh Sawhney, Dr Narender Nath and Devender Yadav.
The Opposition BJP has three members that include Saheb Singh Chauhan, Manoj Kumar and Dr SCL Gupta. Shastri said that members seem to be non-serious on this issue. He agreed on the need of discussion on inflation and expected that the members will address the issue during the Session. “The elected representatives want increase in their MLA LAD fund but are least bothered about the burning issue of price rise eating into the pockets of common men,” he added.
Insiders say that Assembly Secretariat has received 51 notices for the short duration discussion from both the Congress and the BJP and in that there was only one notice on price rise and that too from the ruling party. From these, only four were selected for discussion by the Business advisory committee of which two were of Opposition members and two of Congress members. The House will discuss the deteriorating law and order situation, situation arising out of non regularisation of unauthorised colonies, benefits of trifurcation and corruption in cleaning of drains by MCD. The first two issues are of the BJP and the latter two are of the Congress. Vidhan Sabha has debated the law and order issue in almost every session. Beside this, unauthorised colonies land scam is also not listed for discussion which forced the Government to divest the Urban Development portfolio from Raj Kumar Chauhan.
