Lokayukta court rejects BSY clean chit report

Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa is in for more trouble. A Lokayukta special court in Bangalore on Saturday rejected a ‘B report’ filed by the Lokayukta Police giving him clean chit in a case awarding an irrigation project to a private firm.

Lokayukta Court judge NK Sudhindra Rao directed the investigating officer to go further into charges against Yeddyurappa, Dhavalagiri Properties, Sahyadri Healthcare and Murdeshwar Enterprises and submit a report within 21 days. The next hearing will be on June 18.

Investigating Officer Deputy SP Girish S, in his report submitted to a Lokayukta court on January 30, had declared that he found no evidence against Yeddyurappa after having investigated charges by JD(S) leader YSV Datta relating to a project in the Upper Bhadra river area.

Datta had alleged Yeddyurappa received a Rs 16-crore kickback for awarding the second stage Upper Bhadra Irrigation Project to joint venture of RNS Infrastructure Ltd and Jyothi Ltd, ignoring the claims of the lowest bidders.

According to Datta, in return, Murudeshwara Power Corporation (a sister concern of RNS Jyothi) paid Rs 6 crore to Sahyadri Care & Diagnostics Ltd and Rs 10 crore to Dhavalagiri Properties.

After payment of Rs 10 crore, MPCL entered into an MoU with Dhavalagiri to get 40 per cent of developed land of 79 acres purchased by Dhavalagiri for real estate purposes, Dutta alleged.

Dhavalagiri Properties and Sahyadri Healthcare is owned and managed by Yeddyurappa’s sons and son-in-law. Yeddyurappa, however, was granted anticipatory bail by the high court in the Upper Bhadra case.
