    PM is corrupt: Team Anna

    PM is corrupt: Team Anna

Giving a clarion call for resuming their nationwide indefinite fasting against corruption from July 25, Team Anna on Saturday came out with charges of graft against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and 14 Cabinet Ministers, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Singh and Pranab are the two new additions to the original list, which had been announced by Team Anna in March during their one-day token fast in Delhi.

Addressing the media, Team Anna produced voluminous documents alongwith a 80-page covering note to substantiate their allegations against around half of the UPA’s Cabinet and demanded constitution of an independent Special Investigation Team within two months to probe the charges against the Prime Minister and his colleagues.

Apart from Prime Minister, the other 14 Cabinet Ministers charged by Team Anna for various alleged cases of graft are P Chidambaram, Pranab Mukherjee, Sharad Pawar, SM Krishna, Kamal Nath, Praful Patel, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Virbhadra Singh, Kapil Sibal, Salman Khurshid, GK Vasan, Farooq Abdullah, MK Alagiri and Sushil Kumar Shinde Documents produced against them are from CAG reports, dossiers of various law enforcement agencies, Government records, court records and judicial commission findings.

“We have given ultimatum to PM up to July 24. We have suggested a list of six names of respected retired judges of which Government can take three judges for the SIT. Otherwise, we will go for nationwide indefinite fast from July 25. Due to health problems Anna won’t fast. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia will start fasting. Anna will be in the venue of protest,” said noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Team Anna suggested the names of six retired judges acceptable to them to become SIT members to probe charges against the heavy weights in the UPA Cabinet. They named Justice Sudarshan Reddy, Justice AK Ganguly, Justice AP Shah, Justice Kuldip Singh, Justice JS Verma and Justice MN Venkatachaliah.

“In the letter to PM, we have also demanded that SIT should also investigate charges against party chiefs Mayawati, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Prasad and Jayalalithaa. These leaders are facing series charges in courts and CBI plays a dubious role in these cases to get support for UPA. We don’t want these cases to lag for years in courts. Let these cases be handed over to SIT and probed within six months,” said Kejriwal and Bedi.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said, “I do not need to give an answer to unsubstantiated averments.” He maintained that this was not the first time such things have been said and answered.
