Uttarakhand BJP seeks CBI probe into horse-trading
Rattled by reports that one more party MLA Bhim Lal Arya is likely to quit his seat in favour of the ruling Congress in Uttarakhand, a BJP delegation led by leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand Assembly Ajay Bhatt met Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi at Nainital Rajbhawan on Sunday.
They submitted a memorandum demanding a CBI probe into the alleged horse-trading.
“One MLA (Mandal) has already been bought and there are reports that another MLA is also being purchased by Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna. This is unfortunate that the CM himself is trying to downgrade democracy. Horse-trading is taking place in a big way. We want a CBI probe into it,” Bhatt told mediapersons after submitting memorandum to the Governor.
A 20-member BJP delegation consisting of two ex Chief Ministers namely Maj Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, MLA and State BJP president Bishan Singh Chufal, MLA Rajesh Shula and others led by Bhatt met Qureshi at Nainital Rajbhawan.
In the memorandum, there are several accusations against the Congress, including those of luring BJP MLA Kiran Mandal. The BJP has demanded that a CBI inquiry be initiated into the entire episode.
The delegation also requested the Governor to instruct the DGP to ensure that the Kishore Rai, who is a family member of ex-MLA Mandal, was given adequate security for life and property. He had overtly disclosed that Rs 10 crore was paid to lure Mandal by the Congress leaders. Even he was offered Rs 1 crore to create an tmosphere to justify the resignation of Mandal.
The Governor assured the delegation that he would take impartial action regarding the matter. The governor also wished Rajya Sabha MP Bhagat Singh Koshiyari on his birthday.
