Sanjay Joshi smells plot in ‘poster war’

Breaking his silence on the recent ‘poster war’ involving him and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, BJP’s former organisational secretary Sanjay Joshi on Sunday “appealed to party workers” not to indulge in such acts.

Dropped from the BJP’s National Executive last month under pressure from Modi, Joshi also claimed he did not have “enmity” with anyone and such poster campaigns against any leader went against the interest of the BJP.

“I have already clarified that no well wisher of the BJP will indulge in such activity (poster-banner campaign). Party’s image gets a beating with such activities,” Joshi said in a statement released here on Sunday. He also suspected a controversy behind the poster wars to “defame the BJP and its leaders” when the country was passing through a turbulent phase.

Party’s decision to drop Joshi from the executive and subsequently relieve him of his official assignment in Uttar Pradesh had triggered a poster war on the streets of Delhi and Ahmedabad. These posters were critical of Modi for “arm-twisting” the party to get Joshi out of his way.

In his appeal, Joshi wrote the “value of any individual is because of the party” and that he has always kept the “party ahead of self”. Incidentally, a series of articles in BJP’s and RSS’ mouthpiece had openly and indirectly criticised Modi for trying to “attain a larger than life image” for himself.
