Deoghar airport takes off
The construction of Deoghar airport over 625 acres will provide the holy city with an international connectivity and provide a new intercontinental gateway to Jharkhand. Chief Minister Arjun Munda on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the Deoghar airport in an online programme from his official residence.
The `350-crore Deoghar airport project will facilitate more than five million people who arrive every year for pilgrimage at the Baba Baidyanath Temple.
The airport will also provide an international market for local products developed in the Santhal Pargana region.
“The realisation of every individual’s dream is the responsibility of the Government. The Government is working to upgrade the lifestyle of people in the State and therefore, is serious about all agriculture and other projects in pipeline, including the ultra mega power project of Deoghar and the Govindpur-Sahebganj road construction,” said Munda.
The State Government had signed a memorandum of understanding early this year with the Airports Authority of India for the construction of the airport in Deoghar.
The Chief Minister pressed a computer key for laying the foundation stone in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Cooperative Department and Minority Welfare Minister Haji Hussain Ansari, JMM president Shibu Soren, MP Nishikant Dubey, Civil Aviation Secreatary KK Khandelwal and other officials.
“It will take two years to complete the airport. Construction will be in two phases. There will be one runway,” said Khandelwal.
The Chief Minister asked the representatives of the Airport Authority of India to complete the job in the defined time so it can be inaugurated on the scheduled date.
