I will not resign, says Assam CM
Assam Chief Minister Mr Tarun Gogoi has ruled out that he will resign in wake of the recent ethnic violence in Kokhrajhar district.
Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, Mr Gogoi has said more forces have been called in from Delhi and situation would be brought into control shortly.
“I take full responsibility for failure of law and order machinery in Kokrajhar,” Mr Gogoi told CNN-IBN.
Assam CM added that the situation in Gujarat could not be compared to that of Assam and all measures are being taken by the State Government to bring the situation under control.
“I am the last man to resign, you do not expect a general to run away from the battle field, he said.
The CM said he does take full responsibility for the violence in the district that has claimed around 26 lives so far. He added that the first priority of the Government was to bring normalcy in the affected districts and restore confidence in the people. In situations like this it’s difficult to control as violence spreads fast, he added.
