Sangma all set to move SC against President-elect
PA Sangma is “all set” to file an election petition before the Supreme Court against President-elect Pranab Mukherjee. Sangma had unsuccessfully sought from Election Commission and the Returning Officer for President poll the rejection of Mukherjee’s nomination papers on grounds that he had held an office of profit at the time of filing nomination.
Sources claimed Sangma would sit with his legal team “very soon” to finalise the election petition. That meeting is expected any time after Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy returns from the US, sources close to Sangma claimed.
The matter was reportedly discussed at the last meeting of Sangma’s campaign committee here on Tuesday. “Even ram Jethmalani was not available, so it was decided that Sangma would sit with the legal experts and his core team very soon to finalise the election petition. There is a general agreement between his members on moving the court,” sources claimed.
Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj, BJP leaders SS Ahluwalia, Ananth Kumar and others attended the Tuesday meeting of Sangma’s campaign committee. “Sangma thanked all of us for the support. He also expressed pleasure over the fact that he got more vote than expected” Sangma’s lawyer Satya Pal Jain said.
