DNA tests to put ID on 18 Nellore dead

A team of forensic experts from Hyderabad examined the burnt S-11 compartment of the Tamil Nadu Express on Tuesday. The completely gutted bogey has been parked on Platform No. 5 of Nellore railway station and it is being guarded round-the-clock. Team members went through the burnt material and damaged goods including some mobile phones and electronic items.

The investigations assumed significance in view of statements from survivors, including one seriously injured Madan Lal, that they heard noises of explosion.

Madan Lal, who is undergoing treatment in Nellore, told police that he heard three explosions when the fire broke out. Only 14 of the 32 dead bodies could be identified. These include three from Amritsar, five from Chennai and six from Andhra Pradesh. The authorities have sought the help of DNA experts to establish the identity of the remaining bodies.
