    Cong promises rain on Gujarat

    Cong promises rain on Gujarat

Even before the schedule for the Assembly election has been announced by the Election Commission, the Gujarat Congress has started raining promises on the voters which have kept them away from power for more than 15 years now.

GPCC president Arjun Modhwadia, flanked by Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil and former Chief Minister Sankarsinh Vaghela, on Wednesday announced free plots admeasuring 100 square yards for poor women in rural areas.

During the last three days, the party has distributed forms to urban women with the promise of giving them low cost houses if the Congress comes to power after the December elections.

The promise of 100 square yard plot for the rural women too comes with the big rider, “if the Congress comes to power”.

Not only the free plots, the Congress Government would also arrange loans of `one lakh for building houses on them and also be the guarantor, if it is voted to power.

The Congress party’s certainty on the big ‘if’ is based on the reported huge response its form distribution programme in urban areas drew during Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations on Monday.

The promise of free plots to rural women is part of the GPCC’s ‘Gujarat Praja Vikas Darshan 2012’ that is the party’s precursor to the election manifesto to be released once the poll schedule is announced.
