12 Keralites killed in two Gulf mishaps
Twelve Keralites were killed in two accidents in the Gulf, one in Haima, Oman and the other in Ras al Khaimah, UAE, on Wednesday. Five other Malayalees lost lives in another accident in Mandya, Karnataka taking the toll to 17.
According to reports, the nine persons killed in the accident in Haima belonged to two families from Kuttippuram in Malappuram district and Mattannur in Kannur district. Four of the victims were children. The accident occurred when the vehicle in which they were travelling after a visit to Salalah caught fire after colliding with a Hummer.
Those killed in the Haima accident were identified as Musthaffa of Kuttippuram, his wife Rukhiya, daughter Muhsina, his brother Anwar, Khalid Moulvi of Mattannur, his wife and their children Anas, Hashim and Fathima. Reports said that two Omanis, occupants of the Hummer, also had been killed in the accident.
The victims of the accident in Ras al-Khaimah were identified as Abdul Rasheed (42), Hashim Abdurahman (22) and Shamir Ismail (21), all from Karunagappally in Kollam district. The accident occurred when their vehicle collided with a car at 1.30 am on Wednesday, reports from UAE said.
