Heavy deluge kills four in Jaipur, death toll 12
At least four persons died in the State capital due to heavy rains, taking the total death toll to 12. However official maintain that only nine deaths have been reported.
Flood-like situation prevailed in the State capital, as the city received heavy rainfall till noon on Wednesday, inundating several low lying areas in the capital. Three persons were killed in Bhatta basti, when wall of a house collapsed. Three persons, including one child, were washed away in the flash flood in Shushilpura area.
Several vehicles submerged in the three railway underpasses. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reviewed the situation and directed the District Collector of Jaipur and officials in other parts of the State to start relief work, including provision of food to the affected people, who have been moved in safer areas. Observers said, Wednesday’s situation resembled floods in the State capital about three decades ago, when residents used boats to travel.
School managements had declared Wednesday a rainy day as no buses were plying on the roads.
