The police arrested Delhi natives Harjeet and Gurdeep Singh for allegedly stealing silver and gold articles from Sai temple, Rajpur. The police recovered the stolen items valued at about Rs30 lakh from the accused.

While addressing media persons, Inspector General (IG) Law and Order, Ram Singh Meena said that theft was carried out by the inter-State Kulwant gang.

Following the temple burglary, DIG Garhwal Range, SSP, SP City/Traffic, inspectors and forensic team reached the site for evidence like finger prints. SSP had constituted a joint team comprising Rajpur inspector, special operation group, Anti Burglary Cell and other police officers.

The team was directed to collect detail reports of recent temple burglaries in other districts, neighbouring State Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Based on reports, more than 50 accused belonging to different places like Kotdwar, Udhamsinghnagar, Bijnor, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Saharanpur and other places were questioned by the police. This revealed that the stolen items had not been sold by the thieves who were suspected of being members of Kulwant gang.
