CPM wants probe into 90 irregular allotments
The CPI(M) on Monday urged the Government to cancel and institute probe into at least 90 allotments of coal blocks to private parties, which the Government itself said were irregular. The Left party reiterated that there was no need to cancel the allotments to public sector undertakings, as it would hit power generation.
Addressing media, CPI(M) parliamentary party leaders Sitaram Yechury and Basudeb Acharya alleged that most of the private parties had made huge money by taking loans from PSU banks, soon after the allotment, without conducting mining.
“This is the grey area and that is why this UPA Government is hesitant to cancel the coal blocks to private parties. Only a judicial probe can find out the criminal conspiracy in allotment procedures. Why no clause was put on mining deadlines? People in power were facilitating these private persons to make money by taking huge loans and creating capital with just allotment papers, as in 2G scam,” said Yechury.
The CPI(M) leaders also wanted immediate probe into irregularities pointed out by CAG on Delhi Airport and Reliance Power’s coal diversion. “Due to Coalgate, everybody is ignoring the daylight loot in Delhi Airport and Reliance’s coal diversion. We are demanding probe on these two matters. Our party has started nationwide protest march between September 3 and 5,” they said.
Alleging “match-fixing” of BJP with Congress, the CPI(M) leaders alleged that both parties are thus avoiding a debate in Parliament.
