Stop Chinese adventurism in Ladakh: BJP to Centre

The BJP on Monday asked the Centre to allow the Armed forces to appropriately thwart “Chinese adventurism” in Ladakh region and permit use of force if required.

The principal Opposition party also alleged that Chinese intrusion in Ladakh region has increased manifold just before Chinese Defence Minister General Liang Guanglie’s visit to India.

“Our Defence Ministry must take up this issue strongly with the visiting Chinese Defence Minister and ensure such intrusions are stopped immediately. So much has been the pressure of Chinese Armed Forces on Indian border villages that for the first time in history the Tri-colour was not allowed to be unfurled at Demchhok, near line of actual control,” BJP spokesman Tarun Vijay said.

The Rajya Sabha member alleged that Chinese Army personnel have also forced stopped development work in border village Koyul in Leh. “The surprising silence of Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Defence in this regard is mysterious,” he said.

Vijay claimed that a communication from Leh’s Deputy Commission to the Divisional Commissioner, Srinagar (Kashmir) last month revealed that contractors and labourers were reportedly threatened by the Chinese security personnel numbering 15-16 on July 12, 2012.

“These Chinese personnel were reportedly carrying weapons with them and asked them to abandon the civil works in progress, although it was an ongoing scheme under BADP,” Vijay quoted from the communication.

“BJP demands immediate protection to the border villages of Ladakh and make sure any illegal move by the Chinese is thwarted appropriately, and if needed use of force be permitted,” the party spokesman said.
