BJP plans protests across Chhattisgarh
Irked by the Congress’ protest in capital Raipur on Tuesday to press its demand for resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh, Chhattisgarh’s ruling BJP also announced to hold mass protest rallies at all 27 district headquarters on September 8.
The BJP termed the ‘gherao’ of Chief Minister’s official residence ‘a totally flop show’ and asked the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre to release a White Paper over the entire coal block allocation issue.
Defending the joint venture of Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) with SMS Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, which is the centre stage of the whole controversy in Chhattisgarh, State Water Resources Minister Ramvichar Netam told newsmen at a Press conference at State party headquarters that ‘the joint venture decision was totally in accordance with rule.’
While, BJP’s State general secretary Shiv Ratan Sharma who was accompanied by Netam along with Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu and BJP vice-president Sachitanand Upasne, at the conference informed that the party will stage protest against Congress over Coalgate issue at district head quarters of all 27 districts on September 8 in the State. Replying to a question regarding experience of SMS Infrastructure Pvt Ltd in coal mining sector Shiv Ratan Sharma said the company has experience of coal mining in Indonesia.
“The South Eastern Coalfield Limited and Western Coalfield Limited have issued experience certificate for coal excavation to SMS Infrastructure Pvt Ltd,” Sharma claimed. Slamming its arch rival Congress, Netam said, “Congress-led UPA Government had allocated coal blocks to seven companies in Chhattisgarh without recommendation of the State Government.” He alleged that Union Cabinet Ministers had lobbied for getting the allotment.
Answering to the question of raids being conducted by CBI in different industrial houses, Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu said that all the documents are before CBI and it is now up to the investigating agency to decide what could be done.
He also accepted Congress’ challenge of debate over joint venture of SMS Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and said that State Assembly was the best platform for the debate.
