CBI probe sought into Marxist rebel’s murder
A CBI probe was sought on Tuesday into the conspiracy behind the murder of rebel Marxist leader TP Chandrasekharan of Onchiyam in Kozhikode district on May 4. The probe was sought by the Revolutionary Marxist Party formed by Chandrasekharan and his supporters in 2008 after their departure from the CPI-M.
RMP leaders told mediapersons in Kozhikode on Tuesday that they were now raising the demand for an investigation by the central agency as per the wish of the people. “The murderers as well as those who had acted from behind the scene should be brought to book,” said N Venu, RMP’s Onchiyam area secretary.
The RMP leaders said that the CPI-M had been trying their level best to pressurise the investigation team after the chargesheet was filed in the case. “We want the investigation to be handed over to the CBI so that the people in the State can expect a fair probe,” they said.
The Kerala Police’s special investigation team probing the murder had on August 13 filed the chargesheet in the case by naming 76 persons as accused of whom many are leaders, activists and supporters of the CPI-M. While 37 were included in the murder case, 39 were named accused for helping the murderers to go into and live in hiding.
Those arrested in the Chandrasekharan murder case included two district secretariat members of the CPI-M, several of its area and local committee members but the Marxists have so far maintained that they had nothing to do with the incident.
