Court martial against Army officer for not being on time
Even as a court of inquiry is on in a case of a Major allegedly posting intimate pictures and videos of his superior officer and his wife and her mobile telephone number on some adult websites, the Army has started court martial proceedings against a junior commissioned officer (JCO) for not reporting for duty on time as he was found with a woman in a hotel.
The JCO had come to New Delhi from Panagarh in West Bengal to attend the annual Republic Day NCC camp in January and then sought leave for some days. However, when he did not report for duty two or three days after the expiry of leave period, the Army started looking for him and found the JCO in a hotel with a woman in Delhi.
Since the JCO failed to report for duty on time, a court of inquiry was instituted in Panagarh where his unit is based and the probe found sufficient grounds to initiate court martial proceedings against him, sources said here on Friday. The court martial began last week and may take some time before handing punishment to the JCO, they said.
Meanwhile, the Army on Friday denied that the Major had posted videos of his senior Lt Colonel’s wife on adult websites. This incident took place in an Army Aviation Corps unit based in Bhatinda.
“No allegations for posting of videos and pictures have been made. The only allegation is that of posting of the mobile number of the Lt Col’s wife by the Major on one website and we are carrying a court of inquiry (CoI) into that incident,” Army spokesperson Colonel Jagdeep Dahiya said here.
The Lt Colonel complained to his superiors against the Major making unsolicited calls to his wife and posting her mobile telephone number and explicit pictures of the couple on some adult websites.
The Army was inquiring as to how the Major managed to get the pictures and role of some other officers was also under scrutiny, they said. Meanwhile, the Military Intelligence has taken steps to block the sites carrying these pictures and the commanding officer of the unit in which this incident took place was moved out.
