Allotment procedure was free from bias: Bansal

Allotment procedure was free from bias: Bansal

After rebuffing charges that allotment of coal blocks was fixed, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal has clarified that allotment will not be quashed at any stage under the pressure of BJP and other political parties.

However, he added that strict action would surely be initiated against the companies which managed to record their names in the allotment list by producing fake documents to the Ministry.

While addressing media persons at a press conference held in Dehradun on Monday, Bansal claimed that coal block allotment was done judiciously after thorough scrutiny and the allotment procedure was free from any bias. “The Government is likely to take a re-look into some coal blocks’ allotments. It could also offer to let a judicial probe be conducted into the alleged coal scam,” he said, adding that the allotment will not be cancelled at any cost as it will deliver negative impression on the international market since the current GDP rate of the country hovers around 6.5 per cent and the country needs investors for pushing the nation further on the path of progress. According to him, the figures produced by CAG were estimated for 35 years and the Government is not going to bear the loss. He said that Union Government is keeping an eye on the CAG reports. Bansal clarified that the Union Government had not softened its stand against the CAG report on the coal blocks allocation. He said that the stalling of Parliament by the opposition parties over the CAG report demanding scrapping of coal blocks was not justified because the demand could not be met without valid reasons.
