Cong to field son Abhijit from Pranab constituency
President Pranab Mukherjhee’s son Abhijit will inherit his father’s political legacy and contest from his constituency Jangipur in the Lok Sabha by election scheduled on October 10.
“Abhijit Mukherjee will be the Congress candidate for Jangipur,” Congress sources told The Pioneer on Monday.
Abhijit, who had quit job in SAIL, to join politics is currently an MLA in West Bengal Assembly from Nalhati. He had expressed desire to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Jangipur and the high command has accepted his request. Even the WBPCC president Pradeep Bhattacharya had demanded that Abhjit should be fielded as the Congress nominee from his father’s constituency.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee will support his candidature or field its own nominee against Mukherjee’s son as being demanded by a section of her party.
