JD-U demands cancellation of coal blocks, PM’s resignation
Refusing to take off the pressure Manmohan Singh, the NDA on Monday reiterated its demand for the cancellation of allotted coal block and resignation of the Prime Minister on moral grounds.
On a day the Congress unleashed a blistering attack on the CAG, the BJP also returned the fire to the ruling party asking it not to resort to diversionary tactics and sidetrack the difficult questions staring into the face of the UPA Government.
NDA partner Janata Dal (United) also stepped up the pressure on Congress asking it to drop Sriprakash Jaiswal and Subodhkant Sahay from the Cabinet and suspend MPs Vijay Darda and Naveen Jindal. All four have been linked to the Coalgate.
“While I appeal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to immediately suspend MPs like Jindal and Darda and direct Jaiswal and Sahay to resign from their ministries on moral grounds, I also want tell other parties that they should take action against all those who are facing similar allegations,” Yadav said.
Asked about the alleged irregularities highlighted by the CAG in the allotment of a coal block by the Chhattisgarh Government to a company owned by the BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti, a close aide of BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Yadav merely said, “What I said incorporates everything”. .
BJP spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said the Government was avoiding taking responsibility and was resorting to diversionary tactics in blaming others (States and Chief Minister) for the scandal.
“We reiterate that instead of wasting time on deflecting people’s attention from the real issue, the Government must cancel the allotment of coal blocks and the PM must resign taking moral responsibility,” he said.
