NCTC only after talks with CMs: Shinde

In an indication that the Centre was in no hurry to move ahead with the controversial formation of NCTC, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Monday made it clear that the new organisation would be set up only after thorough discussions with Chief Ministers who are opposing it.

“Yes, I am going into details. I would like to discuss with the States, with the Chief Ministers. This is a good move but we have to discuss with the Chief Ministers,” he said at a Press conference here.

The NCTC, a pet project of former Home Minister P Chidambaram, was strongly opposed by various political parties and Chief Ministers like Mamata Banerjee, Naveen Patnaik, and J Jayalalithaa, Narendra Modi, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Raman Singh.

In his first monthly interaction with mediapersons on the performance of his Ministry, Shinde said Central police organisations have launched several recruitment drives in Naxal-affected States but due to low educational qualification, many youth could not be recruited.

“We are now thinking to reduce the qualification standard for hiring these youth in police forces,” he said. The Home Minister said many of these youth will be imparted training on skill development on the line of a similar scheme being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.

Asked when India would share with Pakistan evidence regarding morphed images and doctored videos which were uploaded in webpages by elements in that country to create social unrest here, Shinde said evidences were collected by various agencies and when these were compiled, they would be shared with Islamabad.
