Gujarat CM announces Chhota Udepur district
In an attempt to woo the tribal population in the eastern parts of the State, Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced the formation of Chhota Udepur as a new district.

The new district would come into effect from Republic Day next year, along with another new district Gir Somnath announced by Modi in his Independence Day speech at Junagadh. With the addition of these two, the total number of districts in Gujarat would go up to 28.
Modi made the announcement at the region's Garib Kalyan Mela held at Chhota Udepur on Monday.
Two irrigation projects worth Rs 4,000 crore, covering one lakh hectares in the tribal belt, were also announced by the Chief Minister.
Modi reminded the huge tribal gathering that nearly 1,000 Garib Kalyaan Melas, during which assets and grants worth Rs 12,500 crore have been distributed, have benefitted 85 lakh poor families of Gujarat.
