Rajasthan PCC chief's days numbered?
Despite assertions by Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Chandrabhan that he would continue in the post as he enjoys the confidence of the high command, State party circles are rife with speculation about imminent change in leadership.
It all started in the last week of August when Chandrabhan, considered close to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, was kept waiting in the sidelines as Sonia Gandhi visited Barmer and Jaipur.
At the Barmer public meeting, he was not allowed to address the gathering though he shared the dais with the AICC president. Harish Chaudhari and Mewa Lal Jain, area Lok Sabha member and legislator, respectively, were given precedence over him.
When Gandhi visited flood-hit areas of the State capital on the same day, Chandrabhan's car was not included in her cavalcade. His vehicle was not allowed at the spot where Gandhi interacted with the flood-displaced and he had to reach it on foot.
A section of the Jat leadership was not happy at the way Chandrabhan, a fellow Jat leader, had been treated by the party president. But the incidents also fuelled speculations that the days of Chandrabhan as PCC president are numbered and he would soon be replaced with someone who would lead the party in the Assembly election which is about a year away.Despite assertions by Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Chandrabhan that he would continue in the post as he enjoys the confidence of the high command, State party circles are rife with speculation about imminent change in leadership.
