Soren ‘threatens’ to pull out of Jharkhand Govt

Soren ‘threatens’ to pull out of Jharkhand Govt
JMM supremo and State Coordination Committee Chairperson Shibu Soren reiterated the issue of a power-sharing pact in Jharkhand on Wednesday and said the State would soon see its ninth Chief Minister from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the New Year 2013.

The JMM chief and others have been raising the issue time and again but Soren has become more assertive and has virtually threatened that they will pull out of the ruling coalition in January if the present Government fails to abide by the power-sharing agreement, which, he says, was reached between him and the BJP Central leadership.

“The JMM is demanding replacement of the Chief Minister under the rotational power agreement (verbal) among coalition partners,” said Soren at his Bokaro residence on Wednesday.

Soren claimed that a power-sharing agreement was reached between him and BJP national president Nitin Gadkari. “Gadkari had agreed to allow the JMM to lead the Government after Arjun Munda completed 28 months in office as Chief Minister,” Soren said.

“Both the JMM and BJP each have 18 Assembly seats and the coalition Government was formed on the verbal agreement on the basis of rotational power-sharing for 28 months among the two parties,” he added.

“We have kept our options open and may join hands with any others like the Congress to form a new coalition Government in Jharkhand. Otherwise, election would be the alternative,” Soren said. Soren was talking to newsmen at his farmhouse in Bokaro.

Jharkhand has seen eight Chief Minister in the last 12 years and Soren’s three terms together were not more than 10 months. Except Soren, all Chief Ministers ruled Jharkhand for a minimum period of one and half years.
